ART14 is an international art fair held each year in london at Olympia from 28th February - 2nd March. Galleries from all over the world participate including this year the James Makin Gallery with a solo exhibition by Makin senior. Its entitled Australia Felix, and takes its name from Major Mitchell's third expedition to south-west and Central Victoria during which he described the rich pastoral grazing land around Mt Macedon and Castlemaine as, 'Australia Felix'. Makin's studio is in the small gold-mining village of Chewton near Castlemaine, just near the Major Mitchell Trail.
The exhibition includes many of Makin's major compositional concerns such as waterfalls, rivers, lakes and vistas from all over Australia. Curated by JMG most are large iconic paintings including some earlier pieces and a suite of etching of the same name.
